This term we’ve started making part of the school field into some vegetable plots. A gang of willing helpers has been digging, forking and weeding away to ensure the plots are ready for planting. This week we had a large delivery of horse manure which will now go into the plots to enrich the soil. Our first challenge will be to grow potatoes, Lady Crystal variety, as part of a science and farming initiative for the Lincolnshire show. The aim is to grow 3 sets of potato plants: a control set as directed by the seed potato packaging, and 2 other sets which change the suggested growing factors e.g. less light, less water, lower temperature. We will show our findings at the Lincolnshire Show in June.

I was a member of the Gardening Gang and I really enjoyed digging out the new beds and raking the soil. It will be very interesting to see the plants growing.

I think the ECO club (green club) is a very good idea. i think we need different choices for bins on the playground. Recycling, compost and landfill waste.!
